Weekly Recap: A Veteran Sushi Chef Returns
“The one and only Lou Valente is BACK”
This big news of the week is that veteran sushi chef Lou Valente is back with his newest venture, Southpaw Sushi, located in Old North Sacramento on Del Paso Blvd. and is expected to open in April. A recent post shows the exterior of the restaurant and makes clear that a soft-opening is coming soon. Read additional coverage from the Sacramento Bee or follow Southpaw Sushi on Facebook or Instagram.
Savvy House Coffee Bar
Elk Grove has mostly been dominated by the large chain coffee shops which is why it’s refreshing to see some locally owned establishments like 18 Grams Coffee & Tea on the scene. Newcomer Savvy House Coffee Bar will join in on the action with an official opening expected in April. A recent instagram post showcases the bicycle table that will grace the inside of their shop.
Fast Casual
After two years in the making, zpizza Tap Room in Folsom is now undergoing a soft opening. Noah’s Bagels on 16th and Broadway also appears to be open with limited hours according to their web site and Facebook page.
The Neighborhood Pizzeria
The highly anticipated pizzeria from the owners of Federalist Public House hit a snafu on Friday just before its expected opening with no new opening date yet to be set. While it’s temporarily disappointing, I’ll argue that’s it much better than disappointing with your product, service or operation once you’re open. Or worse, you have to push back your opening date but no one even knew about it anyways. Kudos to The Neighborhood Pizzeria for being transparent on social media even when things don’t go as expected.
Yolo County
We added 20 locations to Hyper Likely this week and many of them came from getting caught up on the coverage out of The Aggie and The Davis Enterprise thanks to some great reporting by Wendy Weitzel. The upcoming Yolo County (mostly Davis) locations added are: i-Tea, Running Rivers Wine Cellar, Pizza & Pints, Mt. BBQ House, Taber Ranch Tasting Room, Zest Fresh Pastry West, El Patio and last but not least Upper Crust Baking which is currently in soft-opening mode with a grand opening scheduled for April 30th.
Galt
Residents in Galt are starting to see some activity in the food & drink space. A Starbucks recently opened and a Dutch Bros Coffee shop is expected follow suit and open later this year. Some interesting new upcoming concepts include Papas & Wings and Back Alley Brew House.
Now Open
Station 8 Burgers and Platypus Pizza are both now open inside The Bank, Gaspachos in the Franklin Blvd Business District held their grand opening as did Wheel Lemonade in Elk Grove.
